Open House London 2016 took place over the weekend of 17th & 18th September. In Harmondsworth the Church of St Mary was open for both days and the Great Barn on the Sunday only. Saturday and Sunday were both cool and overcast days but this didn't put off the keen band of people that visited many of whom had a carefully planned schedule and tried to incorporate as many attractions as possible into the available hours. A dedicated team was on duty at St Mary's to provide tours, offer guidance and serve refreshments; this team comprised of church officers Stan Woods and Penny Mayger and volunteers from the community Claire Moore and Paul O'Connor. As always the visitors were very impressed with the fine Norman and medieval features of St Mary's particularly the main doorway, tower, stained glass and mass dial on the outside south wall . Across the weekend over 100 visitors came to St Mary's and they travelled from near and wide; some were Hillingdon Borough Locals, others from different areas of London and the south east and the farthest traveller was a lady from Argentina who was staying at an airport hotel and heard about Open London and wanted to visit an English church. The weekend raised money for the church operations but more importantly introduced many visitors to this fine church that always leaves a positive impression on all who visit.
