Open House London 2017 is the 25th anniversary of the event and this took place over the weekend of 16th & 17th September. In Harmondsworth the Church of St Mary and the Great Barn were open both days supporting each other by sending visitors from one to the other. The weather was a little changeable but with some sunny spells so this encouraged out the keen band of people that visited many of whom had a carefully planned schedule and tried to incorporate as many attractions as possible into the available hours. A dedicated team was on duty at St Mary's to provide tours, offer guidance and serve refreshments; this team comprised of church officers Stan Woods, Penny Mayger, Chris Coles, Ivor Horrocks and volunteers from the community Claire Moore and Paul O'Connor. As always the visitors were very impressed with the fine Norman and medieval features of St Mary's particularly the main doorway, tower, stained glass and mass dial on the outside south wall . Across the weekend over 200 visitors came to St Mary's and they travelled from near and wide; some were Hillingdon Borough Locals, others from different areas of London and the south east and the farthest travellers were from Australia and USA who wanted to visit a traditional English church. The weekend raised money for the church operations but more importantly introduced many visitors to this fine church that always leaves a positive impression on all who visit.
